Nursing mom may experience sore nipples during the first few days and weeks of breastfeeding. There are also lanolin-based creams that can help relieve sore, dry sensitive nipples. When using a lanolin cream, make sure it is a purified, medical grade product, such as Lansinoh, to avoid allergic reactions. A lanolin cream can be applied to the breasts after you shower, after each feeding and as often as you think you need it. There is no need to wash it off before nursing. When treating sore nipples, it is important to not use any harsh soaps, shower gels or other products on your breasts. Wash with clear warm water and either gently pat your breasts dry, or let them air dry.
